Berliner Geographische Arbeiten 116, Das Grüne Gleis - Vegetationstechnische, ökologische und ökonomische Aspekte der Gleisbettbegrünung, Berlin 2010.

This is the proceedings of the symposium "Green Tracks" in Berlin 20 September 2010, hosted by IASP in collaboration with the ornamental plants department of the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.

In addition to the history to green tram tracks and their reflection from the city planner point of view, new findings concerning ecological effects of tram track greening on the urban microclimate are described. These comprise water balance, dust binding potential as well as noise mitigation potential. An overview of important vegetation systems is accompanied by economic considerations of different track greening systems. By means of the LCC-program Infracalcc® which was developed within the EU-project Urban Track economic comparisons of different greening systems were conducted. Current examples to green tracks in Freiburg and Ulm are shown. Research projects on textile mats pre-cultivated with Sedum and its ability to cope with pedestrian crossings complete the topic.
