Network Meeting, Erfurt

11. May 2011

The third network meeting was hosted by Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt Gartenbau – LVG Erfurt (Training and Research Institute for Horticulture). Experiences regarding problems and successful tram track greening in Erfurt and Berlin were exchanged. Again from horticultural point of view it became obvious that local conditions are a key issue to a more or less successful tram track greening.

Typical problems of tram track greening are insufficient state of the greening caused by drought, shade and pedestrian or car crossing.

Track greening specifications were presented and evaluated in terms of accuracy and feasibility for the contractor. Specifications often need improvements regarding vegetation aspects, and in particular the material to be used. Mistakes in specifications lead to the fact that contractors don’t take the specifications seriously.

A questionnaire on green tram tracks for German public transport companies was completed. It serves as basis for the conception of planned research projects.
